Sign language rights for all. On this day we need to bring attention to Deaf refugees. The WFDYS recognize the struggle young deaf children have when they are caught in a situation where they and their family have to flee their country. We know that when deaf people arrive in a new country they will have little to no access to interpreting services in their own language. We firmly believe it is important for these deaf refugees to have access to Deaf interpreters for better communication in a time of need. The added benefit results in a gateway being provided to the local deaf community which can then lead to educational opportunities and generally advancing their life.
Happy international week of Deaf people.
