20th WFDYS BOARD MEETING IN NAIROBI, KENYA

In June 2012, the Kenyan Association of the Deaf (KNAD) hosted WFDYS’s 20th Board meeting. KNAD President Nickson Kakiri and WFDYS President Jenny Nilsson along with Mr Charles Kagula from the Kenyan Ministry of Youth Affairs opened the Board meeting at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre. At the Board meeting, it was suggested that a youth regional secretariat for the Africa region be set up at the youth camp for all African countries in December 2012, which would be hosted by the Ghana National Association of the Deaf.

After the board meeting, WFDYS had the honour of attending the first KNAD Youth Section general assembly, which was attended by government officials. The WFDYS Board found the meetings in Kenya and the time spent with young Deaf people invaluable, and the Board would like to thank KNAD for the smooth running of the WFDYS meeting and contributions from the Kenyan Ministry of Youth, Kenyan Ministry of Gender and Kenyan National Council for Disability.
